{"id":3613,"date":"2024-04-23T11:35:03","date_gmt":"2024-04-23T09:35:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terredechine.com\/2024\/04\/23\/argile-de-yi-xing\/"},"modified":"2024-07-18T18:09:29","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T16:09:29","slug":"argile-de-yi-xing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.terredechine.com\/en\/argile-de-yi-xing\/","title":{"rendered":"Yi Xing clay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Since Neolithic times, utilitarian vessels have been made here, but it was not until the end of the 16th century that Yi Xing&#8217;s terracotta reached the height of its refinement.  <\/span><br \/>With its high iron oxide content, despite firing at 1200 degrees, purple stoneware retains a porosity that makes its enthusiasts say that the teapot &#8220;breathes&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>  A teapot &#8220;culled&#8221; by numerous infusions of the same tea will retain its aromas, and take on a warm, shiny appearance.  <br \/>  For a Chinese scholar, the choice of a teapot must essentially meet three criteria:  <br \/>&#8211; the shape given by the potter  <br \/>&#8211; the crystalline sound that the object should give, each teapot having its own sound<br \/>&#8211; the touch, which should be soft and smooth, like soft skin<\/p>\n<p>  The highest quality in teapot making is achieved by the master potter, who makes the single piece entirely by hand, followed by mass production using molds and hand-finished by workshops with several workers, and finally by family production of a few pieces and intermediate quality.<\/p>\n<p>  The choice of teapot depends first and foremost on the volume of tea to be brewed, and then on the tea itself: green, red, wulong, etc.  <\/p>\n<p>A teapot can be rinsed, not washed, and will become smoother and smoother the more you brew.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><em>Yi Xing&#8217;s <strong>famous clay teapots<\/strong>.  <br \/><\/em><br \/>Yi Xing is located west of Shanghai, in Jiangsu province, next to Lake Taihu.
